Just after midnight, the wind began to blow quite hard and rain seemed inevitable at some time through the night.

You may have heard rumours that the ferry to Patras would resume this month. This will not be happening. It's a disappointment to all, but it appears no one seems to be able to make this route work again, for now at least.
Saturday is always a little sleepy around Ithaca. It's changeover day for companies and flotillas seem to stay put at their ports, as it is also changeover time for them. Daytrippers too, don't seem to do the weekend runs. The island is ours and those who dare to travel independently. With so much at our fingertips online, it's never been easier to book your own holiday. So many of the island's accommodations now have an online presence, you need only swipe your tablet or click on your mouse to find something just perfect for you.
Although the blip in our weather a couple of days ago had everyone scratching their heads, wondering what's going on with the weather god, we're fairly confident, there is now a direct line to summer which is blessed with the warm sunshine and blue skies we have always been accustomed to. The water is slowly warming up too, as will be the island with it's festivals, concerts and theatre for us all to enjoy.
News on the grapevine is that Yefuri restaurant in Platrithia will celebrate it's 10 years of existence with a big party. Yefuri parties are always alot of fun. Lots of music and dancing and of course Yefuri's special culinary treats.
For those of you who like to stay in Vathy, Captain Yiannis Hotel has undergone a few changes with a brand new villa 'The President Suite' added, together with a reception hall and chapel for weddings and baptisms. The tennis court has gone, but the aqua waters of their large pool are beckoning and calling out for some splash action.
Bill Gates came into Vathy on his spectacular yacht yesterday. If you want to hit for Win8 or hit him because of it, I'd suggest you head down quickly to seek him out.
June 2014 - Tuesday 17th - So many more new faces around now. Last night, Vathy square was filled with children playing and the bayside promenade, with visitors here on holidays. A great atmosphere, especially around sunset when everything is illuminated in gold.
Left - Frikes was buzzing with diners and yachters here overnight.
Wednesday 18th - Very strange weather day yesterday. Hot when the sun was out, but mostly coolish and windy. The mostly overcast sky did little to cheer us up, and had us all wondering where summer had gone.
Friday 20th - No idea what happened yesterday. In the north the day started with thunderstorms and ended with thunderstorms. They came quite out of the blue, literally.
Saturday 21st - A series of thunderstorms on Thursday night brought the temps down for Friday with a windy and changeable day. Quite a surprise for everyone, including locals. The storms did give visitors a taste of what it may be like in winter on Ithaca.
If you're looking for something to do over the weekend, besides swimming, eating, drinking and being merry, the Vathy Primary school is putting on a theatrical performance of Life Under Water at the Primary school on Saturday night around 10pm and on Sunday at 11am, a presentation of Virtual Vathy at the Vathy cinema. The result of a seminar held this week with around 70 or so attendees who have been deep into the virtual world of computer programs. It should be very interesting to see our capital virtually.
Sunday 22nd - Fine days ahead again. Yesterday afternoon, the wind died down and the heat began to mist up the horizon again.
The parents association would like to say a BIG thank you to the Wolfram family from Platrithia, for their 2nd most generous contribution to the Parents Association which looks after the needs of the locals school community in the north. The Wolfram family have been coming to Ithaca for many, many years and have invested not only their hearts in Ithaki, our island in the sun, but also their second home.
Around some of the cafes and restaurants, you may also see Calendars for sale, only 5 euro. Proceeds go to running the school bus.
Around the 19th of July at Romantza, just outside Stavros, the school community will also be holding a benefit dance. Get along to support this if you can, money raised is for the best purpose, Ithaki's children. You can check back here for further details as we get closer to the time.
