Above - The butcher shop across from the Stavros pharmacy is under new management. It's now called Kreopoleio (Butcher Shop). Marino, the new owner has kept the traditional exterior which we all love, but upgraded the interior for a more modern look.
Right - This cute little puppy was well rugged-up in a demin jacket on the back of a moped. He wasn't yawning, but singing for the return of his owner, Britta.
June 2014 - Sunday 1st - Here's hoping that June will have finer and sunnier days than May. Quite strange for Ithaca to have such unpredictable weather. Come on June. We're counting on you for the sun.
Left - Niko from the Creperie in Vathy takes his family out for a Sunday in the north of the island.
Below - Symposium Restaurant in Frikes is putting on a big night tonight from D. Stanitsas, Ithaki's new Mayor, who has invited some (about 100) supporters to dinner as a thank you to them.
Above - Niko from The Gods gift shop in Frikes taking a quick nap during the quiet time in the village.
Esterelita, also known as Ester van Zuylen, artist and walking guide on Ithaca, has opened up her garden and studio to the public with her exhibition 'Balancing Art & Nature' where she features natural elements she has collected on her walks, wood, stone, bone and other 21st century archeaological finds, to make art. The exhibition is running all through June and the hours are 5 - 7pm daily with special openings on request. Head up the road to Anoghi from Stavros and look for Villa Z on the right side of the street, once you're nearing the edge of the village.
Monday 2nd - A bit cool most of today with a mostly overcast sky. A few more people in the streets, but not as many as one would like to see at this time of the year.
An amazing sky at sunset last night. Pink looking east and blood rest and sunburnt looking north. Streaking clouds across the sky.
Tuesday 3rd - Quite a big surprise yesterday morning getting up to rain, very dirty rain coming up from the south, wind and later, thunderstorms. Feel quite bad for those who are here for a mere week, missing out on the sunshine they were hoping to get.
Although I don't usually like mixing up politics, environment etc during the holiday season, I do have to say that Cloud Seeding, bears alot of responsibility for the changes in weather. The spectacular sunset a couple of days ago, was made more spectacular by the chemicals reflecting and streaking through the sky after a rather heavy stream of seeding late that afternoon. Cloud seeding is not a conspiracy theory, it is in fact, fact. US companies have paid many countries in Europe to test in their skies. What people like to call a conspiracy theory has to do with the reason for cloud seeding and and the composition of chemicals and possible harm in the chem trails.
I have made no secret of it that I am against testing weather changing practices as our planet is a finely tuned system that should not be tampered with in ways that could unbalance nature. Whether these practices are for good or bad is really irrelevent, and I'll let the consiracy theorists and those who like to put them down, deal with that, but I simply believe that weather should not be in the hands of any individual or company. Look up occasionally and see just how rampant these practices are. What is weather worth on the market these days anyway, and how can we justify playing with nature when we are not certain the outcome will be beneficial or detrimental.
Thursday 5th - The skies did end up being blue again yesterday, despite some very black sky over the northern isle as night began to fall.
Left - Kioni. It's been awhile since we've featured this picturesque village so it was about time to look around the edges of this most beautiful bayside village in the Ionian.
Above - Trees often grow out of the rocky slopes around the coastline of Ithaca.
Crystal clear waters around Ithaca is just one of the perks of living on this beautiful island.
Many more yachts sailing into Ithakis harbors now. More people around too, although day time in the north of the island is still quiet most of the time.
Left - The road to Marmaka still needs surfacing, so if you take your hire car along it, please be careful.
Soon the Cantinas around the island will be open again for the summer season. Cantinas can be found at Marmaka, Kioni's cemetery beach, Polis, Gydaki and Filiatro outside of Vathy.
