What's New On Ithaca Greece
July 2022
Wednesday 20th - How quickly we're speeding through July. So many people coming to visit and the weather is perfect. Hot days, refreshing nights. Below - Kioni.
Above - With water this clear, how can you say no to a swim.
Thursday 21st - Polis beach is exploding with people under this July sun. Taki is there to facilitate your cool down.
Above - The 2nd beach at Polis is where you'll mostly find the locals. Below - Stavros and Platrithias should now be well watered during the Summer with new desalinization additions at Polis Bay. Twice the capacity from last year.
Above - Yefuri has a nice little courtyard to dine in, and although under new management, has lost none of its appeal. Below - Delicious is getting rave reviews, not only for their food, but also for their prices.
Above - Kioni night view from Raxi. Below - Spavento Cafe Bar's Kioni Panighiri Party. Click Here or on photo below for more pics.
Saturday 23rd - It appears that the Platrithia Panighiri may also not be happening this year. Another shame. Stavros Panighiri, for now, IS on. Keep your fingers crossed.

Monday 25th - Ithaca is quite lucky here. While much of Greece has temps in the high 30's with very little respite even through the night. We'll have a pleasant 23C this fine evening, making it the best place to sleep in Greece. Below - Kioni. Yachts quite a bit too close to where the locals like to take a quick dip and the kids like to swim.
Below - In Summer the usually sleepy fishing port is buzzing with activity on both beaches.
Below - Vathy at night is a colourful array of people and lights.
Thursday 28th - A cool wind wouldn't go astray right now, late July is hot.
If you haven't heard, it's been decided that the Platrithia and Anoghi Panighiris will not go ahead this year. So far, Sortiros (Stavros Panighiri) is still going ahead.

Summer on Ithaca Greece
Wednesday 20th
Tonight there's a party at Spavento Cafe Bar in Kioni. No Panighiri, but maybe this will make up for it a little. I hope they'll be dancing.
Thursday 21st - The heatwave continues. I don't know if we can actually call it a heatwwave because Summer in Greece is always hot and regularly reaching the mid 30s. With fires raging on the mainland however, I hope everyone is taking care not to toss cig buts or have open fires for bbqs on the beaches. It's not only against the law at this time of year, but dangerous for all who are here on the island.
We've all noticed that the buoys on the beaches, which determine how near the yachts can come to shore, have moved significantly closer to shore than swimmers would like. It's also meant that more yachts come into the bays, and with their speedboats traversing around swimmers, it's only a matter of time before there's a regretable accident. I don't know who's in charge of these buoys but they should be moved further away from where families swim. Today, I also witnessed a yacht emptying its lavatory into the sea, close to the beach, the soapy chemicals they use being a giveaway. We need to respect our marine and land environment. It's all we have.

Saturday 23rd - Nearly everything revolves around water during the day and at night, the villages squares a buzzing with people cooling down after a hot day.
Monday 25th - July is nearly over and if you've been working or holidaying on Ithaca, you would have thought this past month was August. Busy times with everyone catching up after the covid holiday lull.
Thursday 28th - Nightlife on Ithaca is colourful to say the least, but there are also quiet isolated places you can enjoy dinner or a drink.
