June 2024
Monday 17th - Below - It's not often (if every) you get a group of Bell Ringers from the north of England. All here for a birthday party. Happy Birthday Andy Pappas. (ex Yefuri)

Above - Mavrona. Where there is a proposed Cantina. There is a petition against a Cantina here that you can sign at Spavento Cafe Bar in Kioni. Not every beach has to be a money making proposition. Sometimes we just want a quiet place to lay and swim. Below - Ag. Ioannis, looking up at the mountain instead of the sea.
Below - Dexa in the south of Ithaca. Take the road to the Nymphs cave just for the views because the cave is closed.

Saturday 22nd - We're in another heatwave so early in the season. Yesterday was so still that you didn't even have to move to break out in a sweat. Temperatures are supposed to drop by a couple of degrees today, but no one's holding their breath. The weather forecast has been wrong 9 out of 10 times. Below - Kioni.

Above - Kioni under an almost full moon. Below - A Gyro place has finally opened up in Kioni. There's nothing better value than a gyro. A quick take away meal.
Above - Spavento Bar is under threat of losing it's bayside seating with a new restaurant on the block wanting to take that area over when bidding for the tender. I can't wait until I retire so I can tell you all the goss, but for now you'll just have to guess who it is.
Thursday 27th - It feels very hot for this time of year. Like we're having one heatwave after another. We're not complaining. It's better than rain and cold. It's been an important day yesterday for Ithaca and those religiously inclined with the head of the Orthodox church coming to town with an enterage of army, navy and police. More pics coming soon to show you the spectacle. In Stavros a big group of young priests lined up to get into Sortiros.
Friday 28th - Bartholomew I, the head of the Greek Orthodox church arrived on Wednesday 26th June, escorted by the National Coast Guard, surrounded by police and military personnel. He was well-protected, with security surpassing even that of a celebrity like J.Lo. Click Here or on photograph below for more pics.
Below - Yesterday evening ERT came to Ithaca with Giorgos Kouvaras to interview Poppy from Myrtia Restaurant and Chrisanthos Karavias, the Ithaki cheese king, also looking in on his almost completed olive oil factory museum in Exoghi. We got behind the scenes to take some pics.

Summer on Ithaca Greece
Monday 17th
Raxi, which overlooks Mavrona Bay in the north of Ithaca, just before you reach Kioni is a quiet little hutch away from the tourism trail.
Below - At Mavrona you'll see a little chapel, Ag. Nikolas which has an annual celebration each May.

Saturday 22nd - Below Simone and Michael from Queensland Australia. They haven't been to Ithaki for 10 years, but keep up with everything through the site. So nice to catch up with them and take their pic.
Below - Pantopoleion - The greatest little mini market on Ithaca. Not only servicing the visitors, but looking after the locals too.
Thursday 27th - it's the season to be in the water as much as possible with temps in the mid to high 30's. Below - The other side of Polis Beach.
Friday 28th - Yesterday ERT TV was in the north interviewing some well known locals. Below - Chrisanthos Karavias, the Ithaki cheese king.
