What's New On Ithaca Greece
June 2022
Thursday 16th - It's heating up now, not only weather-wise, but with laws and issues facing Ithaca, the Council had a visit from the Prime Minister yesterday for a 4 hour meeting. So predictable that pre-election interest. Let's hope we get some results.
Friday 17th - It's been a busy week, but weekends on Ithaca are usually quiet as most of the flotillas and tour group companies have a changeover at this time.
Saturday 18th - In Summer everything is about the water. Whether you're arriving by water, leaving by water, in the water, swimming, or sailing on the water, getting up early for a swim or thinking about when you can go for a swim, eating, drinking by the water. Water is at the core of almost everything at this time of year.
DEH is working on the power grid today so there's no electricity in the north until later.
Thursday 23rd - Already into the last week of June. While some areas of Mainland Greece scorches in mid to high 30's, Ithaca still has a very pleasant 30C most days with a comfortable night temperture.
Above - If you're wondering what happened to Rementzo, this is it. Nostimo (Tasty)is in Frikes town. Below - Ithaki's long time friend Juan, has sailed back into town with another merry band of guests.
Below - Also back in Frikes town are the Day Trippers. This boatload headed straight for all the restaurants in the village. A nice surprise.
Saturday 25th - Nearly the end of another month. Soon high summer will be upon us.

Thursday 30th - And so ends another month and the 2 busiest months of Summer begin in ernest. Besides the mayhem at the port with 2 ferries arriving at the same time yesterday, and the havoc that ensued, this year, there are quite alot of yachts coming in to all the harbours around the island and visitors with feet on the ground. Before everyone wakes however, Ithaca streets are quiet and serene and you'd barely know you are in the busiest Season of the year.

Thursday 16th
With the restrictions lifted there seems to a lightness around the island again. Some people are still in masks, but the majority are deep diving back into the lives we knew.
Friday 17th - Calm seas in the Ionian are one of the biggest reasons beginners on flotillas sale here.
Saturday 18th -
Above - Althought this looks very creepy, you can rest assured that there are no dangerous spiders or snakes on Ithaca. Well, there may be one dangerous snake, the viper, but just make some noise if you're walking around and they'll retreat. If you're unlucky enough to get stung by a wasp, I swear by crushing some garlic on the sting and wrapping paper or cloth soaked in vinegar over it. No swelling, no pain. I've been stung 5 times and it's worked every time for me. Just beware of people thinking you're a greek salad.
Thursday 23rd - Now that covid restrictions around the world are all but lifted, the world's population is on the move again and some of them are ending up on our precious little island of ithaca.
Some days the restaurants are buzzing, others, not so much, but that's also expected, especially this time of year. In August there won't be a person is a restaurant who have time to breath let alone worry about empty tables.
Ithaki is looking like it's June self again and we're all pretty happy about it.
Saturday 25th - It's been very hot for this time of year.
There is a record number of yachts coming into Ithaca this year. Kioni and Vathy are almost always packed.
The works on the new desalinization plant at Polis is nearly complete. It will supply a higher volume of water than the previous one.
Sunday 26th - It's Summer folks and it's really warming up now, not only weather-wise, but the amount of incoming traffic to the island. Drive carefully out there. Be respectful and stay on the correct side of the road please.
Thursday 30th - Peaceful early morning.
