Holiday on Ithaca Greece

Sunday 1st

Many were thinking the beginning of September would be much quieter around the island, but they would be mistaken. Ithaca Greece is still buzzing in a Peakish frenzy most times of the day.

Monday 2nd - September is a great time to holiday. The heat isn't as hot and the nights are more comfortable. You'll even find a bit more space on the beach, especially if you go early morning or early evening.

Below - Over the past couple of years, Vathy has seen the start-ups of many new shops and businesses, mostly to service the tourism influx during the Summer Season. Many gift shops with many varied and wonderful gifts, mini markets and cafes. With the numbers coming through Ithaca this Season, it seems they'll all have and will continue to do good business.

Wednesday 4th - These warm dawns are something very special. Try getting up early to catch them, you won't be disappointed.

Thursday 5th - It's calming down a little now, although having said that, last night was quite busy in Stavros and Kioni, a clear sign that things aren't that quiet.

Friday 7th - There's the tiniest of changes in the air. Could be that it's getting darker just a bit sooner and that the night air has a freshness that was erased during the high season. During the day there is still the Summer haze obscurring and making the horizon misty.

Monday 9th - Vathy has become such a hub of activity over the past few years. A really great place to hang out, whether you like coffee, gift shopping or people watching, Vathy has it for you.

Thursday 12th - Yesterday there was a distinct change in the weather. It almost looked like rain, although it didn't eventuate, but yes, the season is changing and despite Ithaca still being busy, it won't be long before there will be fewer and fewer visitors on the island.

Apparently there's a hint of rain in the future. Nah!

Monday 2nd - We've had some big yeachts mooring around Ithaki this year. In Frikes and Kioni, there's no mooring fee. Lucky them.

Wednesday 4th - 7am in the morning is very still in Vathy.

Thursday 5th - All in all I think it's been a very hopeful Summer Season this year. For the first time it feels like austerity is loosening it's grip on the Greek population. Capital controls are also being lifted. A clear sign the new government has pockets that need emptying in other countries ;)
