What's New On Ithaca Greece
November 2018
Friday 16th - As you can see the weather has been perfect for this time of year, although the forecast does have some more wintery weather ahead.
The Kefalonia ferry has stopped while it awaits a judgement to get a 2 million euro plus subsidy from the government to run the Ithaca to Patra route. There has been an international tender so who will run the route and if, will be found out on the 17th December. The Ionian Pelagos is running every day except for Saturday. Timetable is on their website.
It's very quiet on Ithaca Greece. Occasionally the silence is broken by a chainsaw or the tinkling of goat bells. It's also a great time to be on the island. Many of the tracks have been cleared and marked, making them easy to navigate and to take advantage of the great views.
Despite the mild weather and lack of rain, Ithaca is very green and the Indian summer is getting locals out to the cafes and restaurants to enjoy the sun.
Monday 19th - Weather has changed now for the weekend with much colder temperatures, so cold infact that there is snow on the mainland mountain tops.
Thursday 23rd - Ithaca was hit by 5 minutes of severe wind which brought down trees and caused some mayhem around the island. Stavros Square and the area of Yefyri were hit the hardest. At Yefyri a tree was uprooted and blocked the road until morning. The wind was followed by torrential rain.
Sunday 25th - After some cooler temperatures, the weather has stabalized again to milder temps.
Tuesday 27th - Nudging at the end of another month and then we're just a step away from Christmas. The Astakos ferry is running every day until the 10th of December and after that it is unclear what the timetable will be, but chances are it will be back to 3 times per week. We'll just have to wait and see.
Friday 30th - The end of another month. Now it's all steam ahead for Christmas and decorating the island.
