February 2014 - Saturday 1st - Quite a bit colder today, and of course, the earth tremors continue to keep us all on our toes.
Tonight at Muppet in Vathy there's Karaoke night, so that should be fun for those trying to escape the tremor blues.
Not much blue sky today, infact it was just pretty grey and lifeless for the most part. Some drizzle and a little wind. Generically winter.
Left - View from the road to Exoghi over Platrithia. The grey skies sucked most of the colour out of the landscape today.
Monday 3rd - Another 6.something quake early this morning, rocked us out of our sleeps. Luckily no damage on Ithaca, but Cephalonia did not fair too well. Here too, precautions were taken by closing the schools.
It's been pretty chilly and grey over the past days. Guess winter has actually caught up with us.
Tuesday 4th - Another grey and drizzly, cold day today, but there was a patch of sunshine and blue sky which I managed to catch before it disappeared after 5 minutes.
Left - View to Lefkada from Stavros.
There are still a few deep rumbles under us, but they seem to have died down. About time too. Over 800 + quakes and aftershocks in just a little over 1 week. That's alot of activity for our little part of paradise.
Friday 7th - Still more tremors and quakes, and although we are becoming used to the rumbles beneath us as the days go on, our heart rates still race each time one happens. It's been nearly 2 weeks since the schools have been closed, and today, in the post box, we received a notice from the council on instructions for what to do in an earthquake.
Left - Mark (GIC rep) who lives out summer and winter on Ithaca, having a break with walking guide, Ester.
Left - Stathi from the Laundry in Vathy and Yianni from Odysseas Sea Taxi having a coffee in the sun.
Left - Filiatro Beach.
Left - Just outside Sarakiniko.
Left - Vathy from Kanelata
Quite a few people out and about today. With all this warm sunshine and blue skies, it's a great relief to be outside again. For today at least, the grey skies are gone and the rain has stopped.
Left - Perahori.
Saturday 8th - Another grey day today, but the good news is, as we edge closer to March, the sun will be shining more and more.
Left - View over Ithaki and the Kefalonia Strait from Pinerakia, the point above Exoghi village, where the views are stunning and massive.
There are also mobile/cell towers, but we try to ignore them.
Left - With a zoom, you can also get a good view of Fiscardo village in Kefalonia. Having visited the village in winter, I can tell you it's like a ghost town, like many bayside villages in Greece during the chilly season.
Saturday 15th - One day sunny, next rainy. Guess that will be quite normal for this month, but one thing is for sure, with the almond blossoms out and flowers along the roadside, Spring is beginning to make itself be felt.
The Kefalonia ferry is now definitely back starting from the 17th of February. Unfortunately, we still don't have a timetable for Patras, as Kefalonia Lines which owns the ferry now, will still be taking us to Killini, an hour and some minutes out of Patras to the south. You can check the timetable, which will be running only 3 days per week until easter, on How To Get There page.
Sunday 16th - Another blue-sky day yesterday, letting us all know that Spring has sprung. Wild flowers everwhere.
It's been a relatively mild winter, albeit plagued with earthquakes and power failures. Can't remember a February this mild in temperatures since I started living here in 2002.
Left - Perahori Views.
Above - The signs of the forthcoming Ithaki Carnival are already along Vathy bayside. It's just a couple of weeks away.
Above - Ithaki youth yachting club were out on the still waters of Vathy bay yesterday, practicing for forthcoming runs.
Below Left - The Homeric Writers Retreat is on again this year. The participants get to stay at the family owned and newly refurbished Nostos Hotel, which of course is nice and close to Frikes Bayside, while still being far enough from the summer noises. It also has it's own very big swimming pool with bar. Very Nice. Anyway, the video was put up by Homeric Writers Retreat and it's made up of some of ig photos. Looks so good, I want to go ;)

Tuesday 18th - Beautiful weather days these past few days. It also seems like the tremors have dissipated quite alot. Have felt the occasional mild rumble, but nothing to jump under the table for.
Below Left - View down to Ag. Ioannis and across the Kefalonia Strait.
Above - Kyriakoula and Spiros, one of Ithaki's much loved locals, got married on Sunday, and we get to share a few pics with you. Click Here for more photographs or on photo above.
Thursday 20th - Strange atmosphere the past couple of days. Although the skies are blue, there is something eerie about them too. I guess it will all blow over if the weekend forecast of more stormy weather is accurate.
Sunday 21st - Yesterday, Burnt Thursday celebrations took place around the island. We caught up with 2 of them. Ag. Sarantas and Kioni. For more pics,

If you're up to a party next week, then you can head along to Mylos for it's annual pre-carnival party on thursday night and Saturday at the Mentor hotel for Forkinas (Ithaki's theatre group) annual party. Pre-Easter celebrations will make it a very interested couple of months around the island.
