July 2013 - Thursday 18th - Another wonderful day as we continue head on through summer. This year there has been so much going on for this festive season that I just can't keep up with it all.
The grapevine has it that Madonna is on the island, yet to be spotted by our local paparazzi (not me), who had a shot of her syndicated, the last time she was on Ithaca.
Bureaucracy doesn't usually take me to the edge, but having to go to the building above, opens up my black soul, and keeping the demon in, is the biggest challenge I have. This building sends shivers down the backs of the most stone hearted and riles up the calmest of people.

Exoghi Panighiri

Last night the mountain Village of Exoghi, celebrated the festival of Ag. Marina. What a great night. The weather was mild and the mood was high. No sign of economic crisis here, just alot of really happy people having a great time. For more pics CLICK HERE or on photograph Left.
Saturday 20th - Tonight it's another big festival night with the celebration of Ag. Lia in Kioni. The Kioni Panighiri take place around the bayside of this bayside village and usually goes into the early hours of Sunday morning.
Above - Fiorendino Bar in Frikes. While everyone is still sleeping, there's a working bee going on behind the scenes as shop owners start their days early to accommodate the Flotilla's sailing out.

Below - Now they're hanging over the rafters. It's the BIG summer season with hundreds coming off the day tripping boats for lunch, snacks or just to sight-see.

A sigh of relief with the news that the Meganissi II ferry will take over the Lefkada to Frikes route now until end of August. Twice daily from Nidri direct to Frikes. Check How to Get There through the ithacagreece.com menu for the timetable. I have also posted the local bus timetable as this is always a concern for the visitor to ithaca. The bus doesn't run often, but at least now you will know the times.

A great night at the Kioni Panighiri last night. A liittle windy, but nothing extreme. Good atmosphere, very happy crowd and lots of energy for this annual summer festival. For more on the Kioni Panighiri on Ithaca, CLICK HERE or on photograph Left.
Monday 22nd - It's summer, what can I say. The weather is fine, the island is getting busier and busier, people are enjoying the blue skies, sun and water at some of our very pristine beaches and the social calendar is full.
Romantsa was the place to be back in the 'day'. It's been ressurected over the past couple of years by owner Nick Sikiotis. A place to go back in time, be nostalgic and remember the past with music and dancing. For more pics Click Here or on photograph Left.
Tuesday 23rd - So we've been zooming through July and in only 1 week, we start the big August month, where usually, Ithaki goes a little crazy.
Left & Below - Perahori. This mountain village which sits over Vathy and has such amazing views across the Ionian to the mainland, is known for it's eco-tourism and organic produce.
Left & Below - The changing face of Vathy. Out with the old and in with the new. The new butcher shop on the main street, follows the trend to disgard the older style business in favour of a newer slicker look.
Lots more visitors around now, although it's still not as busy as previous years, there is enough going on to make it interesting without it being overwhelming.
Left - Mary and Costa are on Ithaki this summer to get married. Mary has her family roots in Frikes.
