July 2013 - Monday 1st - Quite a chilly day yesterday for late June. It was warm in the sun, but the wind brought the temperatures down to make some of us rug up a little.
Left and Below - Platrithia. Yefuri was buzzing for brunch yesterday.
Left - Vineyard beach just outside of Kioni in the north of Ithaca.
Tuesday 2nd - The weather is thankfully fining up again after a chilly glitch a couple of days ago. The sun is shining and the temperature is rising, with nothing but blue skies and a little heat mist ahead.
It's been a busy week with the Return to Ithaca events, now in July, we start the Summer festivals in ernest with the next festival, Exoghi and then Kioni.
Wednesday 3rd - The Return to Ithaca program over the last week continues with an exhibition by Phillip Tsiaras at the Gallery in Vathy over the next couple of weeks. Impressive pieces. If you've got some time, drop by and enjoy the paintings. The exhibition is called 'Horse Boy'. I will be heading along to take some photos in the coming week for those of you too far away to enoy it.
Everyone's saying it "it's quiet for July" and they're right. So few people on the island for this time of the year. The cooler than usual weather, especially at night, hasn't helped either. To see a group of people on the road, is actually quite unusual.
Left - Peter from Dodonis and Frikes Suites has always got a smile on his face. He's the 'the glass is half full' kind of person, and that's what we need right now. Positive attitudes and thinking.
Below - The Nostos Hotel in Frikes. The hotel opens up it's pool to the public for a small fee, so if you're not a sea swimming person, their very large pool will be just the place for you to dip your toes.
Piso Aetos port wasn't too busy yesterday afternoon. It was a sleepy kind of waiting, very relaxed.
Above Left - Just a little test to see what would happen with red and yellow cellophane. Well, intense sunset with a little blur.
Thursday 4th - As we zip through the first week of July, the weather is straightening itself out again, and heating up, just like it should for this time of year.
Left - The early morning heading toward Kioni.
Lots of activity on the bay with yachts coming and going. Early mornings on the island, seem to be a hive of activity.
Left - Kioni bay side.
Left - Margarita Cafe in Stavros. Always a meeting place for locals and visiting Greeks, but also for visitors. If you don't think there's too much to see in the center of Stavros, head over to the Ithaki Restaurant or Sunset Cafe (orange building) for views down to Polis Beach and Bay.
Left and Below - Nicholas Zaferatos, wife Cynthia and his student group from the US speaking on the subject of 'Blueprint for a living village' in Kioni. Ideas on sustainable development and tourism that contributes to the community.

The Return to ithaca program was a resounding success. Cultural events such as this really enhance the island during the season, giving visitors to ithaca, and of course locals, the opportunity to be enlightened and entertained.
