Mon 14 Aug - Last night young Ska band, Smoking Barrels from Athens, with a local from Stavros, Niko on trumpet, rocked Kioni Bayside with some dancy tunes that had the audience screaming for more. |

Tue 15 Aug - A great day yesterday, hot, but not too hot. Today, the same. Clear crisp skies and great views. With the Anoghi Festival last night and Platrithia Festival tonight, the season nears its' apex. The Platrithia Panighiri, being the last Big Bang of Summer, attracts many on the island to congregate at Limnes, where it's held. Tonight there will an urge to indulge in food and wine, and to party until dawn. The last big chance to use alcohol as an excuse to 'partner up' and to let down the facade of the everyday persona. The small Limnes Square always looks like an arena the night of the Panighiri, when it's filled with more people than you can squeeze through. |

Anoghi Panighiri - Mon 14 Aug - Masses headed up to the mountain village of Anoghi last night for the annual Festival. The almost full moon cast its' luminous reflection over the Ionian horizon which gave the walk from the edges of the village, wherever a road space was left to park, a great night view. Wed 16 Aug - Below - The last big Panighiri (with Live Band) for the Summer season was held in Platrithia last night. So many people, so many souvlaki, so much alcohol, so much fun and so much sleep to catch up on. |

A sea of people filled the Limnes Square in Platrithia last night with more Kefi than you can poke a stick at. Mon 21 Aug - It was a scorching 42C degrees yesterday, but in Platrithia everyone was cool and collected as invited guests gathered at the Church in Platrithia to witness Nadia Deftereos and Ryan Fitzgerald join in matrimony Ithaki style. The Orthodox Greek ceremony, with a little translation thrown in, had the village bells ringing and reverberating across the northern isle. For more pics click here or on photograph above. Tue 22 Aug - Ithaca has been labouring under extreme heat conditions over the past few days with Temps of around 40C+. Some of the cooler areas like Frikes and Platrithia in the north, attract those not wanting to spend the night inside, with fresh sea breezes that are a welcomed relief after a long days' heat. In this heat, it's difficult to move let alone work, but still work has to be done.
On Sunday 700 people left the island and there seems to be a noticeable difference in the streets. Vathy still has quite a bit of action compared to the northern villages, but everywhere on the island is quieter now.
