What's New On Ithaca Greece
October 2024
Tuesday 1st - It's certainly feeling a bit cooler these past couple of days. The breezes keeping the temps to a lovely bareable degree.
This year the Marida Festival was held last Sunday instead of today, the 1st of October, the traditional day, obviously due to more people able to come on a weekend than on a week day. This year there was 'live' music and the Polis square was crowded with people from all over the island, even from Perahori and many from Vathy. We missed it unfortunately, but from various videos posted online, it appeared it was alot of fun for those who attended, although to me, it felt like each celebration was becoming a carbon copy of the last. It was nice to have some celebrations, like the Marida Festival, less organized for mass consumption and more traditionally organized for the local community, but I guess the pressure is on for everyone to compete, and although competition is usually a good thing, it can also mean that everything becomes more homogenized so as not to stand out too much from the crowd.
Saturday 5th - Let's pretend that Summer isn't over and that these past rainy days with stormier days ahead are not really here.
Sunday 6th - Storms covered most of Greece yesterday. The skies were black across the Ionian.
Tuesday 8th - The stormy, rainy days have gone for now and we're back to blue skies and sunshine for this early October.
Wednesday 9th - Still so many yachts sailing in and around Ithaca, and no wonder, just look at those blue skies.
Monday 14th - The weather continues to be fine and warm, encouraging the visitors left on Ithaca and of course the locals, to enjoy what sunshine there is around the restaurants and cafes, before Autumn turns down the heat.
Thursday 17th - Still lots of people on the Ithaca for this time of year. Quite lively, and of course it doesn't hurt when the weather is this good. Just a shame those streaks in the sky keep blocking out the sun. Below - Anoghi views.

Autumn on Ithaca Greece
Tuesday 1st
Although there are still lots of people on the island for this time of year, it is very evident that the Season is on it's last legs.
Saturday 5th - It doesn't take much rain for Ithaca to spring back into it's lush and green off season colours.
Sunday 6th - Not even a stormy day deters the ferry from Patras to Ithaki.
Tuesday 8th - Blue skies are back and here to stay awhile.
Wednesday 9th - Blue skies yesterday, as far as the eye could see. Crisp, clear views...until hundreds of jetstreams?? blocked out the sun. If they are jet streams, then hundreds of planes went over Ithaca all at the same time, criss-crossing eachother, dangerous escapades in the sky.
Monday 14th - It really is a great time to be on Ithaca Greece. Not too many people, but definitely enough to have that Summer spirit continue, at least until the Flotilla season ends and the Ionian once again is left to its rejuvenation after a very busy yachting season.
