What's New On Ithaca Greece
September 2023
Friday 1st - Very pleasant temperature for the start of September. Some clouds, lots of sunshine and changing skies. The beaches aren't as crowded and the traffic isn't as hectic. Close to perfect right now.
Monday 4th - Tonight is the opening night of the annual Paint The Lyric Festival. This year, its held in Kioni in the north of Ithaca Island.
Below - Ithaca still has places where tourism doesn't touch. No umbrellas or restaurants, noisy corners or hordes of people passing through with a day tripping tour. A couple of accommodations and a whole lot of 'the real' Greece is what Ag. Sarantas offers.
Tuesday 5th - Yesterday everyone battened down the hatches expecting the worst in the weather. There was some thunder and quite a bit of rain, but not enough to shut up shop for. After Ianos, the medicane, it's no wonder people get a bit nervous with a doomsday weather forecast. Those algorithms sure know how to frighten the heck out of people.
Above - Talitha yacht, small ship, was moored at Mavrona yesterday, getting away from bad weather. Talitha is currently owned by the Getty family. Wonder if they ventured off to take a look around.
Below - Last night was the opening for the Paint the Lyric exhibition at the old school in Kioni. A great turn out and a great variety of artistic talent and imagination. Professional and well organized and publicized too. An open bar greeted all who ventured out on a rainy night. Luckily it wasn't that bad. The rain did stop mostly. Thursday 7th - The bad weather has passed, but it has left us with changing skies. The temperatures are still quite good though. Mid 20's. Very comfortable.
Friday 8th - The weather fined up again today. Lots of warm sunshine and mostly blue skies.
Tuesday 12th - Yesterday was so windy you could hear doors and windows slamming from afar in the middle of the night. As the day went on the wind calmed down and in parts of Kioni for instance, it wasn't windy at all.

It's not often I include photos of food on the website, but Dona Lefki's pavlova is rather epic and very delicious.
Friday 15th - Summer is far from ended during the day with temperature tops of 28 C+, but the nights are definitely cooler now as we make our way through September. For some it was busy, for others not so much. Of course in August it's always a squeeze. Ithaca is a small island, we don't need much traffic to make it look completely full.
Above - When I look at the house above, a sadness befalls me, remembering that my very first visit to Kioni was meeting friends who then stayed in this house. We drank wine and listened to music and talked of trips to Athens where there were plenty of Ouzeries.

Summer on Ithaca Greece
Friday 1st
It looks like the chaos of the high season is winding down now. Still lots of people on the island, especially from yachts, but no more traffic jams in sleepy villages.
Monday 4th - The forecast for the remainder of the week doesn't look good. Wind and lots of rain predicted.
Tuesday 5th - The skies are still a bit grey and dramatic at times, but there is some sunshine shining through occasionally. No rain so far, but that could change.
There is quite a drop in temperature from last night. Even a bit chilly. A nice change from the scorching temperatures of this year's Summer.
Thursday 7th - It's nice to see some known faces back on Ithaca. So much history, so much love for the island to return again and again.
Friday 8th - Some good causes happening around Ithaca this weekend.

Friday 15th - With my first visit to Ithaca in 1983, the old road down to Kioni was the ONLY way into Kioni. It's hard to imagine, but then most people were on motorbikes and scooters.
