What's New On Ithaca Greece
May 2023
Monday 1st - Happy first of May everyone. Hope the sun is shining for you wherever you are.
The forecast for the first week of May seems to include a significant amount of rainy days. Let's hope we have more sunshine than rain.
Below - Afales from the edge of Kolieri.
Below - Vathy, on the far side of the bay.
Tuesday 2nd - It's ithacagreece.com's birthday. 20 years of archiving Ithaca with photos and news, all of which can still be sourced here, everything except businesses that no longer work or haven't advertised on the site. 99% of what is on ithacagreece.com has been done without payment. I'm so proud of this achievement even though it has never been acknowledged by the Powers that be on Ithaca. Many sites have come and gone and I think what has made ithacagreece.com outlast them all is that it has always been done for the love of the island, not for fortune or fame. Thank you to ALL who have supported the website and the businesses therein. We appreciate it more than we can say!
Wednesday 3rd - Some shitty weather this week. Ferry stuck in Patras, but today there is a sunny break and hopefully the weather man is wrong and it doesn't rain all week. Below - Anoghi. Once the rain stops these beautiful wild flowers will dry up and die, leaving only the thistles behind.
Below - Vathy.
Below - Kioni - When the brush and scrub is cleaned away, sometimes you find a treasure beneath.
Thursday 4th - It's a rainy, rainy day on Ithaca. Not much can be said for that other than WET. Some offices in Vathy are left without electricity due to the rain, so Ithaca is at a bit of a standstill. Rain hasn't stopped the flotillas from sailing in however. They are out in force.
Sunday 7th - The rainy days have gone and the blue skies and sunshine is back. Below - Kioni.
Monday 8th - Warm and sunny weather. It's starting to feel like Summer is on its way and the cold and rainy season is on its way out. Below - Kioni.
Below - Frikes is looking like the village we all love again. In Winter there's not much going on here, but now with the season started, it's becoming the vibrant place we all love.
Wednesday 10th - Yesterday was pretty overcast and threatening rain, so I may have spoken too soon about that Summer feeling.
Friday 12th - Not much to tell. Lots more people coming in especially via yachts, although the weekend is always a bit more quiet than week days.
Sunday 14th - Even though, over the last few years, Ithaca has changed quite alot after decades of change moving very, very slowly, it is still an island not yet touched by the ugly tourism that has captured many of the islands and generally the world.

Srping time on Ithaki
Monday 1st
Let the Season begin. Wishing everyone a good one.
Below - Frikes
Tuesday 2nd - Not much sunshine forecast for this coming week, but we know it will come again as soon as the clouds part.
Wednesday 3rd - Below - A Bell tower hidden behind scrub and trees in Kolieri.
Thursday 4th - I don't know what it is about old shutters and doors, but if I see them, I am bound to photograph them.
Sunday 7th - It's a great time of the year. Not too hot and not too cold. Great for walks around the island and getting to know the locals.
Monday 8th - A sunny and warmer start to the week this week, but the weather is warning for more showers on Thursday. Let's hope he's wrong.
Notice - I've been thinking whether, with all the social media platforms, the 'New' updates on ithacagreece.com are worthwhile or whether you'd prefer more photos and vids on the various social media platforms like fb, instagram etc. I'd be interested to know, so write me a note and let me know what you think. Afterall, I do this for all of you who are far away from the island. What you think is important to me. Erika
Wednesday 10th - It's great to see people renovating old houses and bringing them back to life. Ithaca is really great like that. No developments where you can't tell one house from another.
Friday 12th - Getting the most out of the wildflower season before they turn to thistle.
Sunday 14th - Ithaca's clear and clean beaches are only a part of the reason that people love to come here. A big part of the attraction is really the local community who, even now during the increasingly hectic lifestyles, reach out a hand to the visitor to make them feel comfortable and welcomed.
