What's New On Ithaca Greece
July 2023
Wednesday 12th - After a few windy days, it's all calm on Ithaki's section of the Ionian again. It was a good respite however to have some cooler nights. They make for a good sleep. Below - Frikes. Just the place to cool down on a hot Summer's day. Some great restaurants and cafe bars.
Below - Perahori, village with the most stunning views over southern Ithaca and in particular Ithaca's capital of Vathy.
Above - For many years, a restaurant/cafe was missing from Exoghi when the old one closed down so many years ago. Now there's a picturesque one to take it's place.
Below - Margarita Cafe is an Ithacan staple. A place for locals and visitors alike.
Below - Kioni at dusk.
Saturday 15th - Heat mist and high temperatures is the way forward this weekend. While Athens is surpassing 40C, Ithaca is a little better, but here too, temps are bound to soar as we get closer to August, traditionally the hottest time of the year.
Above - Polis Beach, where Taki the beach manager, as he's lovingly known by the regulars to this beach, will set you up for a little shade and comfy place to lay your holiday weary body.
Sunday 16th - The past week has had some strange sights, but none stranger than the sky falling down on the Ionian and on part of northern Ithaca, covering up Afales and much of Platrithia.
Above - A week before, strong winds had the shutters banging and yachts finding a calm place to settle for the night. Some weren't lucky enough to get out of it in time.
Monday 17th - We're in a heatwave, so it's cool down the best we can and laze around when we can't...not everyone of course. Ithaca still needs to run no matter how high the thermostat goes. Below - One place it's always a little cooler is Anoghi.
Above - Perahori. Below - Raxi.
Above - Myrtia, the new sensation in the north of Ithaca. When no one's looking, works are still going on behind the scenes, but each night, there is no sign that anything needs finishing.
Wednesday 20th - More and more people coming to the island now and the weather is not only hot, but we're in a heatwave with temps barely falling below 30C at night. Below - Perahori.
Above - Pilikata, just outside of Stavros. Below - Far south of Ithaca. There are still remote areas to hide away in.
Above - Mavrona beneath Raxi.

Summertime on Ithaki
Wednesday 12th
I have to admit that if it wasn't for the wedding parties and birthday parties which have ferried groups to do with them to the island, and the Greek/Australians finally able to leave Australia and feel comfortable after what seems a lifetime of pandemic restrictions, so far, Ithaca seems fairly quiet this year in terms of actual tourism.
Saturday 15th - The best place to be is in the water when the temperatures are this high.
Sunday 16th - High temperatures and hot winds made life a little uncomfortable yesterday and the thermometer is set to go up as we head to Friday. With so much dry grass around the island right now, please everyone be careful. There are still people that like to toss their butts out the window without putting them out first.
Monday 17th - On Wednesday 19th July, the Ithacan Philharmonic and School Of Music along with Mettlon, Brass and percussion ensemble from Athens perform at the Naval school in Vathy. Doors open at 21:00 and it's free entry.

Wednesday 20th - Below - Avra Restaurant in Kioni.
