What's New On Ithaca Greece
April 2022
Friday 1st - Happy 1st of April everyone. Another month survived amidst war and pandemic. There is a feeling of confidence in the air that all will be ok. Above & Below - The ever expanding capital of Ithaki, Vathy.
Sunday 3rd - It's that time of year again when sandy skies from the desert waft over the Ionian like a heavy veil.
Above and Below - When you reach the very last house in Perahori, continue along the narrow road, once just dirt, but now paved, to the little monastery. It's a lovely surprise.

Monday 4th - Some rain, some sun. Typical Spring weather.
Saturday 9th - Spring means rain here and there, then blue skies and sunshine. The island is blooming and so lush. Beautiful.
Wednesday 13th - Fine weather and a real feel and sounds of Spring.
Friday 15th - I know for those of you who have only been on Ithaca in the Summer, when the fields are brown and dry, this lush landscape is mostly unknown to you. Maybe one day you'll come in Spring, when the island explodes with wild flowers.
Saturday 16th - Ithaca may have been heavily asleep over the winter with covid at the door, but things are beginning to open up again. Frikes, although it will be missing Poppy and Nek from Rementzo, has plenty else to offer in Odysseas and Ageri restaurants and of course Dodonis Cafe and Fiorendinos Bar.

Spring on Ithaca Greece
Friday 1st
Spring has sprung. I don't know where that saying came from or even what it really means, but wild flowers are beginning to blanket the island in spectacular form.
Sunday 3rd -
Ithaca hasn't escaped the Omicron wave, but luckily it's quite a mild illness which is good because even boosters can't escape it.
For now there's quite a hopeful sense about the place, especially with Easter coming up. It's the biggest date on the Greek Calendar. Everyone's looking forward to a normal Easter week and especially Easter Sunday when the spit roast gets fired up.
Monday 4th - With Easter early this year, bookings seem to be coming in early too. Here's hoping for a successful Summer season, without it, Ithaca can barely survive.
Saturday 9th - It's that time of year again when preparations for Summer begin. Polis Bay is a hive of activity, with people enjoying the sunshine.
Wednesday 13th - Already half way through April. Greece is on the short run to the BIG Easter celebrations. The biggest religious and social calendar event for the country.
Friday 15th - Forkis Theatre group are presenting Mydia on the 14th, 15th and 16th of April at the Cultural Center in Vathy. No entry fee.
They have adapted this play into a black comedy - Medea, Greek Mēdeia, tragedy by Euripides, performed in 431 BCE. One of Euripides’ most powerful and best-known plays, Medea is a remarkable study of injustice and ruthless revenge.
