What's New On Ithaca Greece
August 2021
Sunday 1st
All of Greece is suffering under an extraordinary heatwave. It's too hot to do anything really except maybe an early morning or evening swim, but that's impossible when Ithaca is at work during it's busiest time of the year.
Although the Summer season is again this year without the festivals, you can still enjoy some entertainment. Check the Calendar for what's on. We'll try to keep it updated despite any cancellations.
Thursday 5th - Ithaca is really heaving now. Great for all the businesses. Really great! It's easy to think that living in a paradise like Ithaca is easy, but for businesses to survive through 10 years of Austerity and now 2 Seasons with Covid, it's taken alot out of the island so to have a busy August will go some way toward helping this small community survive through the winter.
Above and Below - Sarakiniko.
Above - It's a hot wait for the morning ferry to Patras.
Friday 6th - Much of Greece is burning, just showing how important clearing properties and having access to forested areas is. There is a ban on going into nature reserves until Monday.
Sunday 8th - There's no doubting it, it's August. Lots of people everywhere, you'd never really know there was covid and if there is, it's covid on holiday. Below - The real Mills of Kioni, welcoming boats into its embracing harbour.
Above - Vathy Bay from the road from Kathara. The views a little obscurred with smoke in the atmosphere from some devastating fires around Greece. Below - Frikes harbourside.
Below - Stavros traffic jam.
Above - Tasia and Lazaros from St. Elias villa in Stavros.
Tuesday 10th - If we're honest, these heatwaves are very tiring. When the temps drop below 35C it's a nice relief.
Thursday 12th - Below - Summer concert in Kioni a couple of nights ago with Efi Mavrokefalou and Athena Arseni.
Above - Spavento Cafe Bar in Kioni looking like the old days now it's August. Below - Sirenes in Vathy. A favourite eating spot for visitors to Ithaki.

Summertime on Ithaca Greece
Sunday 1st
Sundays means Brunch at Spavento in Kioni. Andy Pappas (ex Yefuri) is making his famous muffins among other special dishes.
Thursday 5th - With record temperatures around Greece, Ithaca hasn't been spared the celcius as a cool alternative. The extra air-conditioning usage left some areas without power earlier this week.
Above - On the 10th of August you can head along to Kioni for some evening musical entertainment from the Folk Orchestra with music by Spyros Arsenis and lyrics by Efi Mavrokefalou-Dakou. Starts at 9pm in the Kioni promenade.
Friday 6th - Vathy
Sunday 8th - All the yachts are back in the harbour, just where they are expected to be in Summer on Ithaca.
Above - Poli bay too, has it's usual docked yachts. Below - Odysseus Taverna in Frikes.
Above - The most ordered food in Greece during Summer has to be the humble Souvlaki, but local fish on the charcoal grill is also a popular menu choice.
Tuesday 10th - Always the best place to be in Summer, especially in the August heat, is the water.
Above - A welcome respite from the heat in the shade of the Cemetery beach Cantina.
Some live hip hop at the old school in Kioni on Friday 13th of August with Afypnisi / Moenga moe including Theofilos, ithacagreece.com's nephew and son of Spavento couple Jennie and George. Music proudly political and angstly with lyrically pertinent themes. Starts at 10pm. Free Entry.
Thursday 12th - This Summer has been challenging for Greeks who are used to the hotter temps, let alone visitors who are not. The longest heatwave I can remember. It just seems to go on and on. Much of Greece is burning and thanks to our great team on Ithaca, we have stomped a couple of fires before they could grow to damage. Please everyone, no open fires for bbq's, beach fires, cigarette butts out of the car window. It only takes a spark.
