What's New On Ithaca Greece
November 2020
Sunday 1st
With the sad passing of Tilemahos Karavias earlier this week, there will be a big hole to fill. His newletter Ithaca News, was the information point for most, if not all Ithacans. It allowed people's opinions on the matters of the island, but most importantly, kept everyone up to date with important news to do with Ithaca.
Below - Limnes was quiet this year with no Platrithia Panighiri to celebrate.
Above - The rugged landscape of Anoghi.
Well for November we offer another lockdown with only work travelers able to come into the country, masks mandatory everywhere, non essential business closes, except for retails and take away, and although they tell us the most dangerous place to catch covid is in the home, they're locking us in them. I know everyone's wishing 2020 gone, but I think we may also be wishing the same for 2021. Kalo Mina!
Saturday 7th - It's going to be a difficult month in Greece with a national lockdown prohibiting movement and business from today until December. The government has warned it will be ruthless in its pursuit in getting people to abide by the laws with police out in force and big fines waiting for those who think they can get away with free movement or not wearing a mask. There's been a mass exodus from the cities to escape to the islands and villages around Greece before the lockdown started, including to Ithaca.
Wednesday 11th - I hope everyone is staying sane and surviving these desperate measures and pressures that so many of us are under at this time. I know photos can't transport you to somewhere brighter, but I hope they do make a little difference if you're one of the unlucky ones to be locked away from family and friends, sunshine and blue skies.
Saturday 14th - Some rain expected today, but with sunny breaks. 10 days into another national lockdown has the streets quiet.
Monday 16th - Another week in lockdown. I really hate this word, it's such a prison word. There are some people out picking their olives, but I'm not showing any photos as they may (or may not) be doing everything to the letter of the law.

Thursday 19th - I'd like to take some photos of the olive picking, but as there isn't an sms number for it, I'm not sure if whoever is doing 'it' is within the current lockdown law, so better just stick to the scenery.

Autumn on Ithaca Greece
Sunday 1st
Ithaca is mostly a green island, so we don't see too many autumn colours, but the lush landscape still give us plenty to admire over this colder season.
Saturday 7th - Lots of burning off on the island with olive season starting. I don't know if that will be allowed to continue or whether there'll be fines waiting for those who will harvest their olives despite the lockdown. I guess we'll find out soon enough. For now, the smoke from burning olive branches can be a little thick.
Wednesday 11th - The weather can be a little here and there during this time of year, but generally, besides some windy days, it's been cool but fine. At this time of year we'd see so many of the locals out picking olives, but this year, with our Autumn lockdown, olive picking may be delayed until lockdown is lifted in early December.
Saturday 14th - There's little to say right now as there's nothing happening to write about.
