What's New On Ithaca Greece
January 2020
Thursday 16th
It's a very quiet January. Not many people around and those who are on the island are either in their olive groves, at work or hibernating infront of a warm fire.
Saturday 18th - The quiet January continues. Below - View over Kolieri to Exoghi.
Above - Exoghi view to Afales.
Above - Tsitsimida dusk.
Monday 20th - A bit of a tremor yesterday, epicenter near Poros on Kefalonia, but no damage here on Ithaki. It's something to be expected in Greece, that's why it's such a ridiculous thing to deep sea drill for oil and gas.
Tuesday 21st - Already 2/3 through January. Time is speeding by. Below - A Platrithia view of Afales with Lefkada in the distance.
Thursday 23rd - Since the gravel pitch on the northern football oval was turfed, all the teams and their hands and knees are much happier.
Above - Raxi views from Agalio above Kioni. Below - Frikes quiet afternoon.
Saturday 25th - It's been a pretty good January to start off 2020. Lots of nice days to enjoy.
Above - Polis Bay view from Stavors. Below - Ag. Sarantas. A picturesque and traditional village in the north of Ithaca island.
Monday 27th - Only a few more days until the end of the month. If time keeps this up, Summer will be upon us before we know it.
Above - Vathy. Below - Stavros.
Thursday 30th - Below - Vathy. The bay is clear of flotillas and yachts during the winter months. There's a calm, even in Ithaki's capital.

Winter on Ithaca Greece
Thursday 16th
Some mixed weather days, but nothing dramatic or horrible.
Saturday 18th - Below - Into the scrub and woods.
Monday 20th - Another day in the lush, green, winter fields.
Tuesday 21st - Below - Even weeds can look magical through the late afternoon golden light on Ithaki.
Thursday 23rd - Below - Spectators at the north Ithaca Football oval.
Below - Some uninhabited areas of Ithaki are wild and barren with nothing more than rocks and gnarly old olive trees to shape the landscape.
Saturday 25th - One of ithacagreece.com's long time sponsors, Laertes Farm Fruit and Veg Market in Stavros, now also does home deliveries. You can contact Dimitri on 26740 31141. This will greatly help those who are too fragile in age to get to the shops. Below - Just one of the many stepped paths that lead up the hills of Vathy from the center of Ithaca's picturesque capital.
Monday 27th
Thursday 30th - The back streets of Vathy look quite a bit different in Winter. During the summer there is colour and acitivity all through them with shops parading their wares outdoors as well as in and visitors and locals dotted around the cafes from one of the island to the other. Below - Vathy.
