December 2014 - Monday 1st - Feels like summer is back, at least in terms of the temperature. Very warm and muggy the past couple of days. We did have some rain, but it was more like very liquid mud, leaving everything covered in dirt.
Wednesday 3rd - Windy and stormy yesterday, but the air still looks quite dirty with winds coming off the Sahara.
Saturday 6th - Drizzly and grey days, but it is winter, so it's completely expected. The temps are still pretty mild with highs of 19C.
Below - Free for all the family is the movie Frozen, to be shown tomorrow at the old school in Kioni, so head along with the kids. Starts at 5.30pm.

Wednesday 10th - Ithaca has a pretty full schedule for over the holiday period with lots of things going on. See above link for program. Tonight at the Kapi in Vathy at 5.30pm, you can head along for a Mandolin performance. On Sunday at the Stavros Community hall, the Ithaki choir will be singing through the Calendar. Starts 7pm. Lots more. check out the program for all the details.
Sunday 14th - In the north of Ithaca, the locals will be heading to Spavento Bar in Kioni, but at this time of the year, most of the action is in Vathy at the cafes and restaurants still open at this time of the year. Christmas on Ithaca have the villages decorating the village squares and the traditional boats.
A rather loud earthquake the other day rumbled under ground to remind us we do live in a seismic area. It sounded big, but didn't feel big.
Tuesday 16th - A power cut in the north of the island today, due to works at Aetos. I think it's time someone gets the north onto the grid regularly again. There are so many power outs, it's dangerous for the elderly, as phones don't work during that time either, and before someone says mobile, try getting a half blind, deaf and 90 year old grappling around the dark for a mobile with small numbers. I know it's winter, but some of us are still needing to work, and north island does not mean, no one around to be affected. Anyway, the north will be without power from 10am to 4pm, all going to plan.
Above - Yes, when people say there is a river that runs down to Frikes, they're not kidding. In winter, it fills many times over, in summer it looks like we're fibbing.
Friday 19th - Tis the season to be stormy. When the electricity stays on, winter on Ithaca can be pretty spectacular. There is beauty even in the mist.
Saturday 20th - Hi everyone, so it's holiday time again. Things are pretty quiet on Ithaca. There's not much to report. One day it's sunny, the next it's raining. It's colder than November, but not as cold as it could be, and despite the predictions being for the coldest winter on record, we haven't seen it yet.
