April 2013 - Tuesday 2nd - Quite grey again today. Each morning there is hope of blue skies and sunshine, but by midday it all changes and we're left with another colourless day. Good news however is that the temps have gone up. The chilly season seems to be well and truly over.
Wednesday 3rd - While everyone was hoping that April would bring sunshine and blue skies, the greek weather gods decided they'd deliver wind and rain instead.
The almond blossoms have disappeared and almonds are back on the trees for another season, albeit that todays winds could also blow them off.
The economic crisis has switched focus from Greece to Cyprus and thus, it seems the summer season may go quite well locally. Accommodations are getting early bookings, which is always a good sign. It's unfortunate that we are so easily led by the news media and propaganda, because in reality, nothing has changed at the roots. Despite any financial struggle, Ithacans will still be doing their best to make sure visitors have a great time on the island, as they did even during the depth of the crisis as portrayed in the press.
All we need now is lots of sunshine. That's the deal breaker.
Thursday 4th - A perfect Spring day today. Stunning colours everywhere you look, wild flowers and blue skies, there's nothing better.
Yes, the weather is definitely good enough to be in a t-shirt, sitting outside a cafe have a nice cold beer.

Friday 5th - As the weather seems to be yo yo-ing between blue and grey, we're all suffering false starts. Sort of like starting a race before the gun goes off.
Another power cut today due to someone crashing into an electricity pole. It really amazes me how that can happen unless there was illness involved. Too much speed and not enough control.
Sunday 7th - The last few days our atmosphere has been saturated with dust and sand coming up from the Sahara. Everything is orange and brown, including the rain that is currently falling. It's not actually rain, more like mud.
Monday 8th - For a little while yesterday, it looked like the end of the world had come. Just after midday the sky turned a mudddy orange and became very, very dark. What an eerie hour. It was very still, even the birds and bees didn't make a sound.
Dust and sand had been blown up from Africa and made our skies very dreary for most of the day and then as it began to storm a little, the skies turned into something that made all of us feel quite unsettled.
After a couple of days of dusty skies, it was a relief to have some clean(er) rain fall last night. Not heavy enough to wash away the dirt from the previous days, but enough to freshen up the atmosphere. Now, whoever has pressure hoses for hire or sale, will no doubt make a killing over this next week.
Despite the rainy night, some still headed out. Last night most of Frikes was very quiet, but the lights and the grill were on at Rementzo Restaurant.
Above - BYO iPad to Rementzo? Actually, you don't have to bring your own, I believe Nektarios has one on standby for customers dining alone :)
