It's June already
Fri 1 June - Left - View to Vathy from the road to Kathara. It's the blue Ionian for as far as the eye can see.
Sat 2 June - Last night Dimitris from Piccolo in Vathy had a birthday bash in bar and street, made alot of racket and kicked May into June with one swift blow. Everyone had alot of fun. Take a look by clicking here or on photo below. You just never know who turns up to a Danis party.

Around the Villages
Sun 3 June - Sometimes there's life in the villages, sometimes there's not. That's how it goes during this period of the Season. The weather has been mostly fine and the wind has died down a bit now, but for awhile there, it was whistling through the hills and down across the valleys with great speed. The wind was probably the most dominant factor in people staying out of the centers over the past week. Now that the wind has stopped blowing, there are a few more faces in the streets, enjoying the morning blue skies. Below Left - Looking down onto Afales bay, the villages in Platrithias and Frikes Bay from Exoghi. Below Right - On the edge of the world. Definitely one of the most picturesque stops as you head up along the narrow winding road to the mountain village of Exoghi in the north of Ithaca. From here you feel like one step would take you into the blue yonder of the Ionian. On a clear day here, you really can see forever.

No Saturday night fever on Ithaca
Sat 9 June - Everywhere else in the world, Saturday means a big day and night, parties, late nights, lots of celebrating etc, but not on Ithaca. Saturdays on Ithaca mean changeover days for flotillas and accommodations which means the visitor head-count on the streets is very low. Of course this changes in July and August, during those months it's always busy, but now in June, the impact of people leaving while others prepare to arrive, makes a big impression on a Saturday. Below - Frikes with a few locals and a couple independent yachts make all the action there is.

Above and around - Vathy. It really feels like Summer in Ithaki capital village. Still bay waters, warm sunshine, blue skies and boats in and around the harbourside. Sometimes you just have to stop what you're doing to smell the sea breeze. Aah. It's beautiful isn't it? |

Above - Waiting for the ferry to come in to Piso Aetos. There's a real buzz at the ports again. Port police directing traffic, last minute ticket sales, arrivals, departures and drinks and postcards from the Cantina... Yes, we're full steam into Summer now. There's no turning back. Quite exciting really. |

Wed 13 June - Above - Ithakis own hanging rock. On the far side of Frikes Bay where the face of the mountain stands bare to make way for a road and car park, is a lone rock jutting out of the mountain face. Above right - Passing the time in Frikes with Ari from Fiorendinos and girlfriend Teresa from Isalos with Stathi from Penelopes and Dina, also from Fiorendinos, chatting away the hours while they wait for the village to come to life. Right - A fishermans dream. Fishing without competition in the blue Ionian with not a care in the world. Below - Frikes street.
