Yiorgos, the genuine WWII hero of Kioni, and his wife Kiaterini are well rooted locals of Ithaca. He is originally from Patras, but she was has lived in Kioni all her life.

Yiorgos and his dog 'Chernobilly' religiously walk down to the Café every morning and afternoon for their Greek coffee.  He has colourful and vivid memories of times past with an exciting first hand experieince of them. 

Katerini is a fine and placid woman who goes about her business and looks after her large extended family along with her sister Maria.  In their hay day, Katerini and her two sisters were the 'Belles of the island'.
