While all the summer festivals have been successful this year, drawing good crowds and vibrant energy, the Platrithia Panighiri, as the last festival of the season, truly stood out. The event was absolutely brimming with people, especially young attendees, who eagerly carried on the cherished Panighiri tradition. Its success was perhaps amplified by the fact that it marked the season's finale, bringing everyone together for one last celebration.
The festival was expertly organized, with parking attendants stationed around the Platrithia area and up at Taxiarchis Church, ensuring everything ran smoothly. In many other places, a crowd of this size, especially with alcohol involved, might lead to some form of trouble—fights breaking out or someone losing their balance. But not here. The night was filled with nothing but joy, laughter, and maybe a few stepped-on toes.
It was a night of dance and song that stretched into the very early hours of the next morning. Even at 4 a.m., when I finally headed home, the energy was still high, and it was clear the festival wasn’t ending anytime soon.
A big bravo to the band, who played non-stop from around 10 p.m. until the very end. The night was made even more special by the guest singers, including the well-known Lolek, whose deep, rich voice brought a new dimension to the traditional Panighiri songs, alongside Ithaca’s premier accordion player, Makis Andrianatos. It was a truly unforgettable celebration to close out the festival season.
