The Sotiros church was decked in palm leaves and wreaths layed on its steps as the congregation passed through the church threshold to take part in the liturgy for Ithakis one and only, very own Saint. It was another very colourful late afternoon where tradition rung out across the north as the bells tolled for Ag. Joachim. |

Ithaca has its very Saint, lovingly known as Papoulaki. He was the champion of the poor and the old, and each year his existence is celebrated by bringing his bones down from Ag. Barbara church to Sotiros church. It's a big occasion for the northern center of Stavros with church and council heads filling up the parade into the church. |
