The early birds at the Stavros Panighiri enjoy a quiet time. Many make their first stop at the church to light a candle, as this Festival, as most other Summer Festivals, have religious significance and are not only about drinking and dancing the night away. The sun hasn't quite set and the view toward Polis Bay and across to Fiscardo, has not yet been extinguished by the darkness. The festival is only beginning its night journey. Community volunteers and organizers are still setting things up, stocking the bar, making the souvlakia, still raw on the grill, and although there isn't much going on, the early birds do secure themselves the best positions around the dancing circle, confident they will enjoy the 2nd night of Sotiris in comfort. |
