The Stavros Festival seemed to be a very quiet one this year. It was a windy and cold night, quite a dramatic change of weather after the weeks of heatwave conditions, so that may have been a factor. Still, there's always fun to be had and lots of dancing, eating and drinking at a Paniighiri, so let's get to it.

The Celebration of Aghios Sortiros  -  Fri 5th

For something just a little different this Panighiri, phtographs and impressions by Rien Post of Lefki Tattoos have been included. See the Stavros Panighiri seen through the eyes of Rien below.

Dude, please, do me a favour. I've been sitting next to you and your girlfriend for 5 minutes now. She is cute, she obviously likes you, and she's got a smile that could melt icebergs. Furthermore she has kissed your neck, whispered things in your ear and stroked your cheek.

It's midnight and the square is packed. Hundreds of people are eating, drinking and dancing. The band plays well known tunes, from Greek folk classics to Eurovision hits, and the atmosphere is truly panighirian. If there is such a word. Other Panighiris have been known to take hours to develop into something festive, but Stavros didn't waste time. These people know how to party.

If you walk into Stavros and find somebody painting a huge circle on the main square, then it's probably the 5th of August. Time to get ready for the Stavros Panighiri. In other words: time to mark the dance floor.

Something tells me she wants your attention. Don't you think it's time you put that phone down?

If you still haven't had enough of the Stavros Panighiri, come back later and see how the second day of the Festival was celebrated.

The Stavros Panighiri draws people to all corners of the village, to its' bars and cafes at the edges of the Square where good conversations and rendezvous abound.
