After the last couple of years of the pandemic and confusion, it's no wonder Ithaca is turning out for every event on the Ithaki Calendar. Kathara Deftera (Clean Monday) is traditionally the day those who follow the Greek Orthodox religion, stop eating meat or any animal based productst, basically they become vegan, and of course to fly kites. The weather isn't always in tune with the tradition, but this year weather and tradition were in perfect harmony. Kites were flying all around Ithaca.
We headed up to Anoghi, where the locals have always layed out a great feast. Once upon a time, it was the only place that opened up it's doors to celebrate this day with whoever wanted to join, and then to Perahori, where there was a band to liven up the proceedings...and the sun came out.
