Kathara Deftera - Clean Monday in Anoghi and Kioni on Ithaca Greece

For Kathara Deftera (Clean Monday) we woke to a grey and drizzly day, but still the weather wouldn't stop anyone from attending celebrations around the island. First we headed up to the mountain village of Anoghi, where traditionally there would be kite flying on the peaks, but alas there wasn't much wind to get those kites airborn.

After Anoghi we drove back down the mountain, through fog and drizzle, to the bayside village of Kioni in the far north of the island, where Ithacans, both from the north and the south island gathered for another Clean Monday celebration at the old school of the village. Everyone brought a plate, and there were king prawns and octopus on the grill.
