Tsiknopempti is th pre-Easter (Greek Orthodox) celebration of eating meat and celebrating before Lent begins. It's a time of year for parties and carnivals. The time of year where boys dress up as girls and girls dress up as vixens. We headed to Vathy and to Kioni this year to get some pics. A brilliantly, albeit cold, sunny day with summer blue skies welcomed in Tsiknopempti. Whoever wasn't sick in bed came out to Vathy square for a big charcoal grill up in the village square and to the old school in Kioni, where the community went all out to feed whoever came along.
The usually deafening vibrations of children were a little dulled this year. Many must be nursing colds and flus. There also weren't as many people around as I'd expected.
The island isn't too populated at this time of year generally, but this year, even less so.
